I’m Lauren Bernadette. I’m a novelist, poet, and playwright. And this is my personal act of resistance, and a way to keep myself sane during 45’s presidency. It’s also a way of staying grounded, of making art, of bringing light to the beauty that exists in the world — still. I know no better way of doing this than poetry.

208 weeks. That’s how long he’s going to be president (if, of course, he doesn’t yield to the temptation to do something that will get him impeached…so, let’s see, shall we?). That’s also at least how many poems I’m going to write in the next 4 years.

Here are the rules:

  1. I will attempt to write a poem a week.
  2. I will update on Sunday.
  3. Poems can be of any length, on any subject, in any style. They’ll be at various stages of perfection and completion, so bear with them (and me).
  4. My hope is to choose 40 of them at the end of all this and to publish as a poetry book.

So, here we go.
